Twitch’s CEO justifies layoffs, vows to engage creators

One of these initiatives is a new program called “Twitch Creator Camp,” which is designed to help new creators learn the ropes of streaming and build their channels. The program includes a series of video tutorials and live workshops, as well as one-on-one coaching sessions with experienced Twitch creators.

“We know that starting a new channel on Twitch can be daunting, especially for new creators who are just starting out,” Shear said. “That’s why we’ve created Twitch Creator Camp – to provide creators with the tools and resources they need to be successful on our platform.”

In addition to Twitch Creator Camp, the company is also planning to launch a new feature called “Channel Points,” which will allow viewers to earn rewards for engaging with creators’ streams. Viewers will be able to earn points by watching streams, following channels, and interacting with creators, and they can then redeem those points for a variety of rewards, such as custom emotes and chat badges.

“We believe that rewarding viewers for their engagement is an important way to build a strong community on Twitch,” Shear said. “By giving viewers a way to earn rewards for interacting with creators, we hope to encourage more engagement and foster a stronger sense of community on our platform.”

Despite these new initiatives, however, many in the gaming and streaming communities remain concerned about the impact that the layoffs could have on the platform’s overall health and viability. Some have even expressed fears that the layoffs could signal the beginning of the end for Twitch, which has faced increasing competition from other live-streaming platforms in recent years.
